About Brandy Kowal

I am a registered social worker of Scottish/Irish/Ukrainian/Metis ancestry, from Northern Manitoba living and working in Winnipeg. My work experience has included work with the disability community, First Nation organizations, and in addictions. In all my work, I prioritize working in a humble, relationship based, and loving way. I center my values in all that I do. For six years, I worked in program development and management, working with Anishinaabe youth transitioning from child welfare. This included the creation of program policies and procedures, developing forms and assessment tools, navigating funding applications and agreements, and growing the program from a team of 2 to 20+ staff. This experience allowed me to learn about the importance of relational leadership, while supporting my love for writing, creating, building relationships, and working in anti-colonial ways. After completing my Masters of Social Work in Indigenous Knowledges, and with years of experience in program development, I realized I wanted to provide more direct and diverse services through my work. I decided to start Red Willow Connections Consulting and Wellness to allow me to use the gifts I carry in diverse areas, to work towards a world where people feel safe and connected. I am a mother, partner, and leader in my everyday life. As a parent of a child with a disability, I am a keen advocate for the rights of persons with a disability. My lived experience with homelessness, addictions, trauma & mental health gives me a solid foundation and unique perspective in my work and my views on the world. I have unwavering faith in the capacity of others and in the possibility of change.
