About Brandy Smith

You may call me an idealist, in fact many who know me do, because I’m driven to make the world a better place. I’m also a critical thinker, problem solver, and self-proclaimed Quartiles addict. Being of service to others is my calling and investigating the best ways to do that is my passion. That is why I take so much pride in what I do, helping Veterans get access to the best-known mental health services available. I have extensive expertise in behavioral health research and program evaluation from my decade-and-a-half-long career at the VA, where I started out as a research assistant and now lead projects. At the core of my role as a Health Science Specialist, lies a commitment to enhancing the delivery of evidence-based care, with a particular emphasis on reducing suicide risk. My dedication to this field is driven by a deep-seated mission to support our Veterans' mental health and the implementation of transformative care practices. Prior to working at the VA, I was employed in the fields of healthcare and fitness. Even then I was committed to health and well-being, and their impact on bettering people’s lives (you know the whole idealist thing). I also broke sales records for a health food start-up as a brand ambassador. It was an exciting challenge and one that I took on as a secondary position while simultaneously working at the VA. Did I mention I can multi-task? The time I spent in these fields prepared me for entering into the career I have today and helped me develop valuable skills and insights. My competencies include marketing communications, interpersonal communication, collaborative problem solving, qualitative analysis, and project management.
