About Branko Kopjar

Dr. Kopjar is internationally recognized for his expertise in advanced biostatistics, clinical trial design and clinical epidemiology. He has been a faculty member at the University of Washington since 1997, and served as the Executive MPH Program Director from 2014-2019. Over the past 25+ years, Dr. Kopjar has supported clients ranging from start-up biotechs to multi-national medical device and pharmaceutical companies, medical technology investment groups, venture capital firms, law firms, patient advocacy organizations, hospitals and governments. As an expert witness, he has provided testimony in several high-profile class action lawsuits related to health insurance coverage disputes. Dr. Kopjar has designed more than 100 Clinical Study Protocols for trials reporting to the Australian TGA, US FDA, Health Canada, European Notified Bodies, and other agencies. His experience ranges from the development of Proof of Concept FiH trials to pivotal Phase 3 registrational studies, and post approval studies. He is a frequent contributor and reviewer for publications such as the Journal of Neurosurgery, the American Journal of Public Health, Spine and the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. Dr. Kopjar began his public health career as a university instructor in the late 1980's. Since then, he has held visiting, associate and distinguished professorships in Canada, China, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. Dr. Kopjar is active in a variety of research organizations including: AOSpine North America, where he serves as the Lead Investigator for its Methods Core unit, and The North American Spine Society (NASS) where he serves on two committees. He is an elected fellow of the European Society of Translational Medicine (FAcadTM) and of the American College of Epidemiology (FACE).As of 2020, Dr. Kopjar is an author or co-author on more than 500 peer-reviewed publications, abstracts and technical reports.
