Hey you. Welcome to my page! My name is Brecht Rubens and I am a full-time localisation engineer at ElaN Languages (translation agency). But let’s rewind for a second. I first started at UCLL (University College of Leuven-Limburg). I have always been interested in languages and that is why I opted for the training Office Management – Specialised in Translation. This three-year training, during which I improved my English, German and French skills, made me hungry for even more! I was aware that I had to expand my skills to be one of the best. After my internship at GlobaLexicon, a language & translation services company based in London, I knew what would be my next destination: the KU Leuven. It is there where my interest for the translation industry continued to grow. For instance, I love working with CAT tools. Although still being a rookie, I am very willing to improve that set of skills. And thanks to my job at ElaN, I have the possibility to do that. Being able to solve technical issues myself gives me a kick! Next to that, I learn to communicate, negotiate and establish a personal relationship with translators and customers. In November 2018 I obtained my degree 'Account Manager' during an eight-week course. I really want to develop myself into the perfect link between company and customer and make sure that the customer gets what he wants. In January 2020, I started as a freelance translator German & English into Flemish. In November 2021, I was promoted to the role of localisation engineer; the kind of engineer that knows the ins and outs of CAT tools, handles complex file types and gives technical support to sales, PMs and translators.
