About Bree James

Hello, I’m Bree James, and I am proud to be the Member of Parliament for the electorate of Barron River. My job is to advocate for our region. My team and I work tirelessly to represent the people of Barron River, and there is a lot of work to do. We have a deep passion for local issues and a commitment to progress. Together we are focused on delivering tangible outcomes for our region. Prior to becoming the Member for Barron River, I was a small business owner for over 20 years. I began my entrepreneurial journey at the age of 18, starting my first official business. In 2003 I moved to Cairns and immediately knew this would be my home for life. I started PakMag in 2007. PakMag, a free parenting and children's magazine that was distributed monthly in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay and online for 16 years. During this time we printed over 4.5 million magazines and 438 editions, which is more editions than any other privately owned publisher in Australia. The successful “PakMag” brand is well known to families right across North Queensland and we boasted a monthly readership base of through three separate magazines printed for three cities: Cairns, Townsville and Mackay. The business evolved to more than just a magazine in 2017 to also have the PakMag Parents Podcast, YouTube Channels PakMag TV, Bree James TV, & Parents & Kids of North Queensland YouTube channels that get over hours of views every single month. In April 2023 the print side of the business ceased due to the significant cost increases. As a small business owner, one of my biggest passions is strengthening and supporting businesses. The world is waiting for all of us to step up and take action. It’s not just the big issues. It’s also the small issues that can make a big difference. I am proud to be doing what I can to create positive change for Barron River and Queensland. After being in business for over two decades, I have solid personal values that guide my decision-making. These values have helped me stay on track for my journey and got me through some very tough times. I am an advocate for people. I am a solutions finder. When I see a problem I work out a solution that solves it. This is what I strive to bring to the Barron River and Far North Queensland community every day.
