About Brendan Eckert

After 5 years teaching English on the high school level, I decided to take my career in a new direction. My practice has always been driven by project-based learning, putting students at the center of their educational experience and developing their problem-solving, critical thinking, and researching skills by posing an authentic task with many paths to success. The process of trial and error, of blending technical knowledge with creativity and artistic expression, of asking questions and finding the answers, of doing and re-doing, of recognizing how to use your strengths strategically and improve upon your weaknesses, of finding a direction when no clear path exists, and of committing yourself fully to the fulfillment of your task to the best of your ability. this is what I teach, above all else. These are the habits and skills that lead to success in the real world. I have found that the role of library media specialist uniquely positions me to support this kind of learning on a larger scale. I am no longer a teacher of only 5 sections per year. I now teach an entire building, students and staff alike. I pride myself on being the go-to person that can offer a new perspective and help problem solve in virtually any situation. I am flexible, eager to learn, and always ready to collaborate, and each day presents new challenges and accomplishments. I enjoy my current job, but I am open-minded to explore other opportunities, as well.
