About Brent Dutton

I have been a professional performer on the tuba since the early 1960s. I have been a member of many organizations as principal tuba (Regina Symphony, Canadian National Youth Orchestra, L'Orchestre Symphonique d' Qubec, Canadian Opera Co, Grande Ballet Canadien, Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra, World Gershwin Orchestra,) as well as other orchestras on an adjunct basis (Cleveland Orchestra, San Diego Symphony etc). I have been tubist with The Cleveland Brass Quintet, Central Michigan University Faculty Brass Quintet, I-5 Brass Quintet, The San Diego Brass Consort and Westwind Brass). I have been a Professor of Music at San Diego State University since 1981. Before that, I taught at Central Michigan University (Assistant Prof. 1976-81), Oberlin Conservatory of Music (Teacher of tuba and brass chamber music 1976), Laval University (Teacher of tuba 1972-74). I have been active as a composer since I was 10 years old. I currently have over 50 works published and many works recorded. 2007 saw the completion of my 8th Symphony - I do not know what the future holds for me. I hope to remain active in making music as a teacher, performer and composer for the remainder of my days. The chief goal of my life has always been,and will remain, that my children live happy and contented lives and that we all make the earth a better place by our efforts to be good people. Specialties: Tuba performance in the orchestral and especially in the chamber music areas. Music composition and arranging are near and dear to me. I have made my career as a Professor of Music so my main contribution and perhaps specialty is the molding of the minds of my students.
