About Brent Staeben

As Director of Strategic Funding Opportunities at NB Power, I lead initiatives that align our strategic priorities with federal funding programs—helping drive innovation, sustainability, and economic growth across New Brunswick. My work focuses on securing support for transformative energy projects, developing business cases, and negotiating complex agreements that position NB Power for long-term success. I bring a unique blend of experience as an economist, health policy expert, and senior executive in communications, marketing, and customer experience across government and crown corporations. Over the past decade, I’ve been deeply involved in advancing smart energy innovation and renewable energy projects in Atlantic Canada. I was part of the founding team behind the Smart Grid Innovation Network in 2015 and helped launch the Atlantic Smart Grid Consortium in 2017, which led to $35.6M in federal funding for the $92M Smart Grid Atlantic initiative. I then led the Shediac Smart Energy Community Project from 2018 - 2025 as part of Smart Grid Atlantic. I’m passionate about leveraging New Brunswick’s leadership in the energy transition to benefit local companies and communities—and helping New Brunswickers understand the challenges and opportunities ahead as we navigate the future of energy.
