About Brent Young

I am currently in my fourth semester of the Primary Care Paramedic Program at Fanshawe College. Since beginning the program in September 2023, I have built a strong passion for emergency medicine and patient care. My favourite aspect about the program is the experiential learning that takes place outside of the classroom. This journey of putting knowledge into practice while in lab or on placement shift has strengthened my interest in becoming a paramedic. I will never forget the feeling of my first high acuity call while on placement, it was the moment I was sure this was the career for me. In the spring of 2022, I graduated from Brock University receiving my Bachelor of Kinesiology with first class standing. During my time at Brock, I spent a great deal of time learning the anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics of the human body. I made the most of my time at Brock by becoming a student athletic therapist with the Brock Sports Medicine team as well as other groups including a Faculty of Applied Health Sciences Mentor and a member of the Brock Rehabilitation Science Association. Joining these groups not only helped my studies but also resulted in new friendships and mentors who I look up to. Before beginning my studies, I worked as a lifeguard for the City of Brantford. This was the stem of my interest in healthcare and desire to help those within my community. Since this time, I have continued with the city and reached a higher status within the Lifesaving Society. I now teach and examine both National Lifeguard and Standard First Aid with CPR-C courses as frequently as I can. I love to see candidates learn and grow as lifeguards and become confident in their abilities to save a life. Through my teaching, I hope to inspire others to follow their career goals and know that they are on the correct path to success. In my personal life outside of school and work, I spend my free time at the gym or swimming to keep my physical fitness up. During the winter months, I like to snowboard at different locations in the area. While at home, you’re likely to find me watching a movie, usually a scary movie as I like to keep my heart rate up.
