About Bret Crane

My experience in the work force has fueled my desire to understand how and when individuals that do not have a formal leadership role engage in leadership behaviors. I have studied this phenomenon in situations where it would be particularly useful, such as in dynamic team processes, in culturally diverse teams, and in organizational learning and change. My research is designed to be of interest and to bring value to students, executives and academics alike. Prior to my PhD, I worked in industry for seven years. My career began at IBM as an account manager. Following a MBA from BYU, I joined a Fortune 250 real estate and development firm where I was promoted to be an executive over operations for one of its divisions. I have also consulted for firms such as 3M, Lowe’s Inc, Panda Express and American Express. I have significant experience teaching and working with a diverse group of individuals. I helped develop and taught classes at the undergraduate and graduate level at the University of Virginia and I currently teach Analysis of Business Issues to a diverse student body at the George Washington University School of Business. My consulting and leadership experience as well as dynamic teaching style allows me to establish credibility and effectively engage with executives and students alike. In addition to these courses, my teaching interests include leadership, organization behavior, human resource management, and organizational change.
