About Brett A. Becker

If you would like to connect, please include a note to say who you are! For the most up to date information please see Particularly for publications: All of my publications are open-access from that page only. If you have trouble accessing anything, contact me here: https://people.ucd.ie/brett.beckerI am active in Computer Science Education Research, particularly first year programming, how learners engage and interact with computing instruction, languages, and tools, and ways to broaden participation in computer science education. Other pedagogical interests involve how fundamental concepts of computation, mathematics and information theory impact the education of students in all disciplines, and how these concepts can be better understood, applied and utilised in their work and endeavours. I am an active member of the ACM SIGCSE.I am also a collaborator with the Heterogeneous Computing Laboratory (hcl.ucd.ie) researching in parallel computing, focusing on designing data partitioning algorithms for large scale heterogeneous architectures. I am actively researching the applicability of such algorithms on all scales ranging from multicore up to cluster, grid and cloud architectures. The primary goal is to minimise communication and data dependencies between processing entities. These algorithms are designed to be applied to low-level linear algebra kernels. Finally, I am a collaborator in the Centre for Applied Data Analytics (CeADAR), helping bridge the gap between academia and industry in all areas of data science.
