Several years ago, as a professional online poker player, I found myself wanting to automate some repetitive mouse movements. I wrote my first script in AutoHotkey, and after some tinkering I was able to get it click the bet/raise/fold buttons and even enter bet sizes based on a percentage of what already was in play. With that problem solved, I moved on. It was back to playing poker for me, but that thrill of having built something to solve the problem myself never left. Fast forward a few years and I've landed in a telemarketing position where I again found myself needing to automate repetitive tasks. I turned to my old friend AutoHotkey and wrote scripts to automate dialing my phone, entering notes on client records, and sending emails. This time I was enamored, and I decided to push further and actually learn programming. Since then I've been pushing my skills to the next level. I've progressed from AutoHotkey to Python to Ruby to Rails to HTML/CSS to Javascript to Backbone. After thousands of hours of practice, a few MOOCs, plenty of pair programming, and some decent sized projects under my belt; I'm looking for opportunities as a web developer.
