About Brett Payton

I have a broad range of professional experience in e-Learning development, multimedia production, project management, communication research and early childhood and adult education in both the private and non-profit sectors. I believe proper utilization of information and communications technologies and implementing evidence-based communication and pedagogical practices are keys to empowering individuals, teams, organizations and communities. I am a PhD candidate at Shanghai Jiaotong University's School of Media and Communications. My research focuses on communication for development and social change, with a particular focus on using ICT to help address inequality (especially within public education and public health). Specific topics include eLearning Systems Evaluation and addressing digital divides in online learning, online health communication (e.g, online ASD information and misinformation regarding COV-19), and building communication infrastructure for community empowerment. My aim is to apply my diverse professional experience and academic research background in the non-profit or public sector to help create impactful communication infrastructure through sustainable projects, improving collaboration between stakeholders and utilizing technology, best-practices, and research to enhance an organization's capacity to fulfill their mission, operate efficiently, and strengthen communities.
