About Brett Steffens

I knew that if I wanted to succeed as an engineer, I needed to have certain qualities. Namely good problem solving skills and the ability to see and understand a system and how it works. The good news is I now have demonstrable proof of those things, but getting here required a serious trial by fire. Plastics were the materials I feared the most in college, because they're completely alien compared to the metals we studied more thoroughly. I had effectively zero prior knowledge or experience with plastics and injection molding before starting at Rex Plastics. Then I was confronted with a new environment, new rules, and new duties centered entirely around plastics, and I was terrified; but fortunately I adapted quickly. After a couple months, the VP at Rex Plastics approached me and told me I had progressed far beyond where they expected someone with no prior knowledge to be. That affirmation is what helped me understand that versatility and adaptability are two of my greatest strengths.
