About Brett Stevenson

I am honored to serve and work in the Hillsdale Community I grew up in (HHS Class of 1993). The 2025-26 school year marks my 21st year at Hillsdale and 26th year in education. I started my career out as a history teacher at Bowditch Middle School before becoming dean of students at Hillsdale in 2005. At Hillsdale, I have served as dean, athletic director and assistant principal. I have also had the distinct honor of being named the Boy's Varsity Head Basketball Coach in 2007 and coached proudly until 2020 and was fortunate to lead our basketball team to our first CCS Championship since 1997. I will be returning to the sideline this year to be lead assistant for head varsity basketball coach Deshawn Mitchell. In addition, I have served as co-executive director for a grassroots non-profit at Hillsdale called Empowerment Through Action (ETA). We launched Empowerment Through Action in 2018 and the program has grown to support over 200 students who are First Generation in their family to graduate from high school or go to college. In June, the SMUHSD School District approved one million dollars to create a five year initiative called Empower San Mateo which will expand to Aragon, San Mateo HS, Bridge Academy, Abbott MS and hopefully other feeder middle schools. Hillsdale High School and our community stands together!
