About Brett Thompson

Thanks for viewing my page! My name is Brett Thompson, and I am currently a Associate Producer at ESPN in its Charlotte, NC office. I work on remote event production, specifically as an AP on our college sports production, including football, men’s & women’s basketball, and softball. I previously contributed to the Monday Night Football ManningCast in its Emmy Award-winning debut season. Before this, I was one of our lead Content Associates on our college basketball coverage, serving as a CA for our Saturday Primetime crew, which covers marquee events such as the Champions Classic and North Carolina vs. Duke. I’ve also worked on the NBA Draft twice (including the first ever NBA Draft on ABC), college softball (including the Women's College World Series), college lacrosse, the NBA Combine, SEC Now, ACC football media day while at the Charlotte office. I've also written two features for ESPN.com. During my time in the ESPN NEXT program, I served as a "Pod Captain" for our Charlotte and Orlando offices, hosting "Player's Only" meetings each quarter to solicit feedback from my colleagues and present it to ESPN management. I previously worked as an intern and a production assistant at ESPN’s main campus in Bristol, CT, where I worked in a studio role for SportsCenter cutting highlights. I worked in Bristol from June 2017 to March 2018, when I moved to our Charlotte office. I graduated the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Media and Journalism in May 2017 with a degree in Broadcast and Electronic Journalism. In my time there, I produced/directed/reported for Sports Xtra (an on-campus sports show covering UNC athletics) and directed/sports anchored Carolina Week (an on-campus news show covering UNC/local stories). I also represented the university as a freelance journalist at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In that time, I sent photos, video and stories back to the university to distribute to news outlets across North Carolina. Additionally, I interned as a UNC beat writer for then-Scout.com’s Inside Carolina, covering football, men’s basketball and baseball.
