About Brian Alejo

With 20 years of extensive experience in metallurgy, including 5 years as an expatriate in Mali, Africa, and 15 years in various local roles, I am currently working as an expatriate in the Arctic region of Nunavut Territory, Canada, at a gold mining operation. Throughout my career, I have established a strong track record in the mining and metal industry, having held key positions such as Production Supervisor, General Foreman, Commissioning Engineer, Training Supervisor, and Mill Manager. My areas of specialization include base metal and gold processing, with particular expertise in copper and zinc flotation, elution Zadra processes, gold refining techniques, gravity concentration, acacia processing, and methodologies such as Carbon-in-Leach (CIL), Carbon-in-Column (CIC), and Carbon-in-Pulp (CIP). My robust background has allowed me to lead process operations effectively and implement comprehensive training programs for personnel, ensuring that teams are well-trained and knowledgeable. In the past year, I have expanded my expertise into physical and adaptive metallurgy, focusing on advanced processes like steelmaking using Electric Arc Furnaces, which facilitate more efficient and environmentally friendly production methods. Additionally, been involved with continuous casting techniques for billet semi finish product and rebar production through modern rolling mills. This evolution not only enhances my understanding of metallurgical processes but also strengthens my ability to provide innovative solutions to the industry. I am dedicated to staying at the forefront of metallurgical advancements and continually enhancing my skills and knowledge. I take pride in being part of the team that achieved certification for the lowest CO2 emissions in the steelmaking industry, ultimately earning green steel certification from DNV Germany auditors. Prior to my mining experience, I served as a multi-discipline Quality Assurance and Quality Control Engineer at two of the largest steel fabrication plants in Manila. In this capacity, I was engaged in various projects, including steel bridges, malls, high-rise buildings, oil and gas facilities, mining plants, and government structural steel projects. I also obtained TESDA certification as a PWS Certified Welding Inspector, which equipped me with a strong understanding of quality standards and multi-level inspections.
