About Brian Bannister

I qualified as a solicitor in 1988 and have practiced corporate and commercial law in a variety of business sectors both in relation to transactional work (joint ventures, acquisitions and disposals, MBOs & MBIs and equity fundraising) and commercial law matters (including franchising, logistics, software & other IP licensing, agency & distribution agreements, marketing & promotional T & Cs and, most recently, GDPR). My three years spent as in-house counsel for an engineering technology company (the IP being jointly owned with BASF SE) provided me with valuable experience as both a supplier and manager of a broad range of legal services required by that business (including employment, property and equity fund-raising). As well as advising on English law matters I have significant cross-border experience; in particular as part of my in-house responsibilities I took an active part in negotiating contract terms on civil (bridges, flooring systems and stadia risers) and marine engineering construction projects (repairs and reinstatement of ship hulls and oil-rig platforms) with customers located in North America, China, Singapore, South Korea as well as within the EU. Being sole in-house counsel did mean that, when appropriate, I had recourse to external lawyers, which has given me valuable insight regarding the expectations of clients requiring accurate, practical legal solutions to very specific commercial problems.
