About Brian Cassidy

I live in Courtenay BC (cell 587-707-5906/email magnum1145@gmail.com). I am currently a university instructor for Wilfrid Laurier University. As a subject matter expert in the fire service industry I developed course curriculm for Wilfrid Laurier University's Public Safety Bachelor's Degree Program in the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences. I developed a course called The Principles of Fire and Emergency Services which I currently teach. I worked for WorkSafeBC as an Occupational Health and Safety Investigator (fatalities and serious injury), however I left this position to continue and further my career opportunites in academia and other areas that match my skill set. I retired from the Calgary Fire Department after 11 years of service where I was a Fire Investigator the last 3 years. I am a highly skilled Fire Investigator having attended and investigated approximately 300 fires in a 3-year period using the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 921) protocols using the Scientific Method. I was noted by my Superior as “setting the bar” on several fire investigations that other investigators should emulate. I have also held several other positions with the Fire Department including having been a Fire Inspector, Emergency Management Officer, a Firefighter on the trucks and an Airport Crash Rescue Firefighter. Other jobs I have done include having been a police officer for approximately 10 years. I served with the Calgary Police Service and a member of the RCMP. I was also a Parks Canada National Park Warden for 4 seasons, an Enforcement Officer with Environment Canada, a Federal Fisheries Officer, and a BC Provincial Park Ranger. In 2012 I obtained a Masters Degree in Disaster and Emergency Management from Royal Roads University in Victoria British Columbia. I also have a 4 year Criminal Justice Degree.
