Background
About Brian Cicero
As I reflect on my journey in higher education, I am grateful for the experiences that have shaped my career. With over 28 years of executive leadership and administration, I have dedicated my life to preparing the next generation of professionals for success in a globalized world. I earned my Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Grand Canyon University, where my dissertation,"A Study of Faculty Members' Self-Reported Cultural Intelligence and Cultural Psychological Capital," explored the critical role of cultural competence in education. This research provided insights into how faculty members can better engage with their diverse student populations. Currently, I serve as a faculty member in the Doctoral Program in Organizational Behavior/Leadership at the University of Arizona Global Campus. In this role, I teach courses like "Organizational Development and Leadership," and "Theoretical Foundations of Diversity Work" creating interactive environments that foster critical thinking among my doctoral students. My commitment to developing 21st-century leadership competencies is central to my teaching philosophy. In addition to my role at Arizona Global Campus, I teach graduate-level courses at the University of Denver, focusing on building modern organizations and understanding diversity within organizational structures, as well as Introductory Psychology to undergraduate students at the University of Maryland Global Campus. My approach leverages case studies and group discussions to encourage strategic thinking essential for success in today’s dynamic work environment. I also own Cicero Consulting Group, LLC, providing strategic planning and executive coaching services to diverse clients. This practical experience enriches my teaching, allowing me to bring real-world insights into the classroom. Throughout my career, I have been committed to fostering inclusive learning environments. Understanding cultural intelligence is crucial for both faculty and students; by developing these skills, we can enhance job satisfaction and performance, ultimately improving student outcomes. As I continue this journey, I remain passionate about advancing research in cultural intelligence and psychological capital within academia. My goal is to empower educators and students alike to navigate the complexities of our interconnected world with confidence and empathy.
