I lead the architecture of the Enterprise Suite of SaaS services within the Utilities Global Business Unit. This SaaS suite recomposes the features and functions of large on-premise Java-based offerings to run on shared Kubernetes clusters supported by a cloud native control plane and observability tools: • Millions of lines of on-premise Java code backed by thousands of tables and exposed via thousands of customer-extensible REST and browser UI services. • Existing code replatformed onto a modern Java-based chassis and combined with additional microservices for a modern runtime. • Fully automated control plane which converges customers’ environments to desired code versions and configurations. • Advanced observability including metrics, alerting, distributed tracing, continuous profiling and much else which. Four years ago, I pitched the architectural concept and have guided its implementation into a growing SaaS suite with live utility customers relying on its services for their core business functions. I am a member of Oracle's Product Architects Community that evangelizes technology adoption within product groups and I also review university research grant proposals. I've been with Oracle and SPL Worldgroup (acquired) for 26 years this summer. Previous to my cloud role I led a team that built a COBOL-to-Java translator that removed 1% of the world's COBOL, ran the development of the Mobile Workforce Management and Oracle Realtime Scheduler products, managed the framework integration team, was a consulting project manager and functional/technical architect and was an original designer of the software that became Oracle's Customer Care and Billing product as well as three other products forked from that code-line.
