Background

About Brian Cook

I have been in the waste management, chemical, manufacturing and construction/demolition industry for over 30 years and have worked in nearly all aspects of it including as a government regulator for the UK Environment Agency. I have worked in chemical manufacturing environments working up from a laboratory technician to a chemist, obtaining my qualifications through day release. I worked as a chemist on waste management sites where I finally left industry to be a government regulator with the Environment Agency. After 3 years I left the Environment Agency to set up an H&S and Environmental Consultancy serving the construction/demolition and recycling sector. My work required a high degree of legal knowledge, project management, people management and report writing. I have served as a professional witness in legal cases. I am currently working for a major NZ waste company in a compliance role. I work in my region to support the branch managers with their day-to-day activities and provide expertise in H&S/fleet & environmental issues. I am on the WasteMinz sector group for writing the waste guidance for the waste sector in NZ. I'm also part of the AUS/NZ ISO Standards group for updating standards.
