About Brian Coughlan

I'm an independent Data Scientist with experience in a broad spread of related roles over the course of 20 years in the Business Intelligence space such as Project lead, Technical lead, Architecture lead, Business Analyst and Lead Developer. While my career focus is SAS, brief timeouts to keep up to speed with other BI applications are welcome. My current position entails a mix of project management and SAS development/governance in a manufacturing context within Volvo Trucks in Sweden. I am comfortable taking on projects with budgets in excess of a million Euro/Dollars/Pounds and quite happy to go where the work takes me. I know it sounds hackneyed, but I'm going to say it anyway: I genuinely enjoy the buzz of working intensively to deliver cutting edge analytical tools and ensuring they are used productively! I am a bulldog when it comes to deadlines and delivery dates and will move heaven and earth to make the right things happen. After wandering the world (literally!) for 6 years in the 1980's and 90's, I completed a B.Sc. in Business and Information Technology at Dublin's prestigious university, Trinity College, while working full time as a Technical Support Manager for an early Internet startup, AOL, in the mid 1990's. In 2001, myself and my family moved to Northern Europe, where I now primarily do consulting on Business Intelligence. I am a published author, responsible for a modest contribution to "Innovation and Creativity in a Complex World", published in 2009 by the World Future Society. I have also presented at SAS conferences. Specialties: IT Project Management, SAS Programming (Base and Macro), The SAS 9.4 Suite including Visual Analytics, Call Centre Operations, Warranty Analysis and Business Intelligence Governance. I am a fluent German and Swedish speaker.
