About Brian D Smith

I research, write about, speak on and advise on the evolution of competitive strategies and business models in the Pharma and Medtech sectors. Although The term “thought leader” has now become debased, it's fair to say that I'm insatiably curious about how the life science sector is evolving and my work in this area is much cited. My academic homes are SDA Bocconi and University of Hertfordshire. My own research interests include how business models in the life sciences industry are adapting to our changing social and technological environment. This includes the evolution of specific capabilities in leadership and strategy making. I also supervise a group of PhD students who are studying the industry’s evolution. Our research questions include “How can we best localise global strategies?”, “What's the best arrangement in R&D partnerships?” and“How can we encourage the adoption of new medical technologies?” If you would like to know more about our work, please do get in touch. My advisory work involves helping senior executives to answer their difficult questions about competing in our complex and changing market. I’m not a consultant with a cookie-cutter process; I work in a very individual way with each client depending on their needs, their resources and their culture.
