Background
About Brian Darlas
I have worked all over the customer service spectrum. Starting with food service. I have been employed at McDonald’s®, Burger King®, Wendy’s®, and Taco Bell®. The important skills I learned was proper and acceptable cash handling practices and how to interact with customers even if you are not in the best mood. I have worked as a field applicator at Spring Green. What did I come away with from this job? Dogs are very good at hiding their stuff, or is it that they are bad at it, either way I stepped in a lot off it. Also, home owners spend a lot of money on their lawns. This position forced me to work more independently as you are out in the field by yourself with only remote contact to the management team at the office. As such, you are the face of the company, and the person the customer will talk to about the problems they are having. It also increases your time management skills as a set number of lawns needed to be completed each day. I have been a peer and professional tutor at Southwestern Michigan College. This position gave me a different look at the adage ‘those who can’t do teach’. The learning process is highly collaborative; it’s better to work and learn in a group than by yourself. Tutoring forces you to focus on different types of learning and recognize how to get past barriers that someone may have with the learning process. Be able to recognize what their goals for the learning process are and help them achieve them I was an EMT Basic and worked my way to become a Paramedic. Did you know it is OK to sleep at work? Well, not really but as an emergency responder that worked a 36-hour stretch maybe. As an EMT, you have to learn to deal with emergencies and crisis, develop critical thinking skills and implement decisions quickly, safely and efficiently. I really enjoyed the aspect that every interaction with some one was different. From a simple stubbed toe to a serious auto collision, every time you go out you are going to run across something new.
