Background
About Brian E. Tingle
Excluding 3 years for graduate school and a job in the Midwest in the late 70s/early 80s, I've been a resident of Ashland, OR for nearly 45 years. I'm the co-founder of the Southern Oregon Repertory Singers, an auditioned semi-professional chamber choir that's in its 30th year (I'm still singing bass in the choir). I'm also a season ticket subscriber from the outset of Chamber Music Concerts at Southern Oregon University, now in its 32nd season and served on the CMC Board for around 20 years, including 6 years as Chair of the Artistic Committee that was charged with reviewing and selecting our performers, negotiating fees and finalizing the concert season for all of the ensembles that appeared on our concert stage. I was on a choir tour of Poland in 1976 and have sung in the Oregon Bach Festival Choir numerous times over the last 4 decades. I was also a Renaissance singer and sackbut player for the 1983 summer Green Show performances of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. During the academic year of 1974-75, I was in a master's degree program with U. of Oregon's German Center for International Music Education near Stuttgart, West Germany. We visited music education training schools in western and eastern Europe, traveled throughout western Europe and Britain and "behind the wall" to Czechoslovakia, Hungary and East Berlin. I sang in 3 choirs based in Stuttgart, and also sang a pair of concerts performing the Verdi Requiem with the famed Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in then-West Berlin. In Stuttgart in the Fall of 1974, I sang in the choir for the European premier of Darius Milhaud's last major work, Ani Maamin, an oratorio that chronicles the history of the Jewish race from its founding to the Holocaust of WWII Germany. It was an emotionally draining concert for us as performers and for the Stuttgart audience as well - at the conclusion of the concert, the capacity-filled audience of 2800 silently rose from their seats and exited the concert hall.
