Background
About Brian Engel
I am a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Over my short experience with the engineering discipline, I've picked up some useful skills including being proficient in several CAD software including SolidWorks, PTC Creo, Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360, and Siemens NX. During my undergraduate degree at the University of Minnesota, I was employed by 3M as a Technical Aid and R&D Intern. My duties in this position included data collection, data analysis using Minitab and various other software, and collaborative presentation of my findings within my Scrum team. Throughout this role, I gained extensive experience with data collection and data analysis, in addition to a thorough knowledge of time management. I became extremely familiar with National Instruments software including LabVIEW, and Vision Builder for Automated Systems. I have in-depth knowledge of laser cutting/engraving software including CorelDRAW and EZCAD 2.0. From my industry and academic studies, I have some basic knowledge of Finite Element Analysis with ANSYS, IQ/OQ/PQ. I have extensive knowledge of basic programming languages such as Python, C/C++, MATLAB, R Script, and UR Software. I also have a basic knowledge of business analytic software including Microsoft Power BI and Minitab I have excellent leadership and teamwork skills with experience working with both small and large groups (20+) from Western Spring, 3M, University of Minnesota Spirit Squad, Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, and Eagle Scout Project. I have demonstrated immense problem-solving and creativity by developing a new product for the startup Urban Wing Co. with a patented design as well as new manufacturing techniques for Western Spring Manufacturing. Experienced collaborator working with several departments and individuals in varying roles at 3M and WSM. I also have considerable experience working with electromechanical devices through my many projects as a Manufacturing Engineer. This position gave me considerable experience working independently while still being able to give updates to my team when needed. This role also provided me with the tools to be a very independent worker. By working for WSM I was able to fill many roles and tasks that were outside of my original job description. For example, I was solely responsible for a complete overhaul of our oven controls which included both designing software and training operators. Finally, I am looking to gain experience working in a medical device company and would love to eventually get my Master’s in Mechanical Engineer.
