I left education in '83 to start an accountancy career. It was a time of recession and I figured it was better to have a job than be over qualified for one.my family ran a modest business but my father encouraged me to look beyond that. I fancied computer programming, sent to the local college for relevant courses, and they provided a leaflet covering everything form "A" through to "D". Accountancy was top of the list - I had no idea what it was but my Dad explained that his accountant done very little and was paid a lot - that sounded like a great career choice to me! In 1992 I qualified as a Chartered Accountant, and became a partner of Lovewell Blake in In late 2007, I enrolled on a family business advice degree course. It was the best experience of my career. It had nothing to do with business advice, but was focussed on the relationships, tension and conflict within a family business. The course gave me a great insight into the family business and started to help me understand their issues - which are often shared by many other families, although most feel that their issues are unique. It was a two year course, extremely hard work, but I will never regret it. Specialties: Finding a way to overcome hurdles rather than putting them up - too many professionals do the latter!
