Background

About Brian Ginther

I am a full-time student attending York University, set to receive a Specialized Honours Bachelors of Fine Arts in Visual Arts & Art History with a certificate in Public History. I am a proficient graphic designer, illustrator, and academic writer. I work as the digital and multimedia support assistant in the Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change’s communications and marketing team. My time in this role has helped hone my graphic design skills in the Adobe suite to create assets for digital campaigns and print, train fellow students in the Adobe suite, prepare and execute communications plans for events and social media campaigns, support recruitment events, create and deliver workshops, and manage independent projects to support various campaigns. Beyond my role at York, I am self-employed artist who does commission work for hire such as presentation sheets, character design, book editing and design, digital and traditional painting, and much more. I approach artwork from a multimedia and interdisciplinary lens incorporating various methods and mediums such as digital, painting, ink, collage, and print. In 2021, I was the winner of the OCADU x MARTK’D Poster Contest and a finalist for the Pickering Community Banner Program. In 2024, I was the Patel Brown Commission Award Recipient. Since 2021, I have been featured in a variety of exhibitions in locations such as Gallery 1313, Eleanor’s Winter’s Gallery, Special Projects Gallery, and Neilson Park Creative Centre. In 2025, I curated my first show, “the gay psalm for God”, that featured my own work and the work of Amelia Filice. In 2023, I created the “How to be a Trans Ally in the Workplace & Classroom” workshop as an independent project to bring into my work space at York University. This workshop has been delivered as part of events for York University’s Pride Month and additional training for staff and peer mentor students.
