Coding is not very difficult. And in fact, it has only been getting easier. Pretty much anyone can whip together a website, an mobile app, or some widget now-a-days. However, like many crafts, there is no replacement for real world experience. Creating a quality product or team doesn't just happen. Only with experience is it possible to navigate common pitfalls. Knowing what works and what doesn't is the key to being a great leader of a highly functional development team and bringing the human aspect to the team guarantees that motivation and productivity skyrocket. I have over 15 years experience in software development and have been lucky to be part of two very successful start ups so far: Conversys grew from a total of 5 employees to over 40 while I was there. Their client list included most of the top retail chains. From the very beginning, I was a key part of a team that worked extremely hard to meet our clients demands. I was responsible for designing and implementing enterprise-level applications, a data warehousing and mining solution, producing dynamic reports, a GIS system, and a content/ad serving system. Ortech is a leader in medical registries with clients all over the world. Data is captured from our suite of apps and services including: Patient self-serve emails, clinical kiosks and admin apps, hospital interfacing, or directly from surgeons in the OR room. Since joining Ortech, I have been steadily taking on more of a leadership role which I enjoy greatly. One of my greatest accomplishments has been introducing the Scrum framework, DevOps and other agile methodologies to transition into a highly effective team! I have also been a part of countless side projects (either on my own or as a contractor). These projects include mobile applications, websites and the odd game. When I'm not coding, mentoring or leading a team. I enjoy spending time with my beautiful family, taking in nature, listening to music, and building things with my hands.
