About Brian J. Sullivan

Practicing medicine is how I serve others. It's a bonus that I am fascinated by both the brain (how the depths of our understanding is limited, and how much more there is to know) and by surgery - the discipline, the focus, and the intensity of a surgical operation. I am known for my expertise in minimally invasive surgery (especially ambulatory or same-day surgery), and for my communication with patients. I absolutely believe in the value of making medical and technical information accessible to understand by those outside the field of medicine. It's a critical ability that I use when communicating with patients. My personal philosophy has always been to treat patients the way I would want myself or a loved one treated. If I can provide a calmness or comfort to them, then I feel good about any recommendation that I make - because I know I am treating the person the way I would want. With 22 years of neurosurgery experience under my belt, I am still excited about the years ahead of me at Maryland, Brain, Spine and Pain. I want to be a part of the new treatment paradigms with a continued focus on the patient as the center. I see MBSP becoming the major destination for the Mid-Atlantic region for minimally invasive spine surgery, pain treatment, and brain surgery.
