Research & Medicine: It's been my privilege to serve as a research investigator and hepatology (liver disease) physician assistant (PA) at the Beatty Liver and Obesity Research Program at Inova Health System since 2008- I was thrilled to play a small part in bringing the new Hepatitis C antivirals (Harvoni, Mavyret) from clinical research to market. A modern medical miracle!(1. cure rates up from 40% to >99%./ 2. Treatment duration from 1 year to 8 weeks./ 3. Chemo-like side effect down to negligible.)- Currently, we focus on bringing similar life-changing and life-saving treatments to people with fatty liver disease (MASLD, aka NAFLD). A third of Americans have fatty liver. Two of every ten dangerously overweight diabetics have the advanced, high-risk subtype (MASH, aka NASH). We have a great opportunity to improve the lives of our fellow Americans and their families- Moreover, we are seeing increased stakeholder recognition of the important role played by APPs (Advanced Practice Providers: PAs & NPs) in the day to day care of patients with liver disease. As chair of the APP committee of the Global NASH/MASH Council, I am committed to advocating for increased impact of GI/HEP APPs. Financial Freedom & Real Estate: Stewarding resources wisely and teaching good financial habits to my kids is a passion of mine. Whether it's small student housing development in Los Angeles or larger multifamily apartment syndications, real estate investing can be an inflation-resistant, tax-savvy part of a balanced portfolio. Plenty to learn here. Thankful for my partners who are on the same journey. My weekdays are spent- leading research projects and seeing patients at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus - running at Orange Theory, taking my teens to swim team and correcting my son's Algebra 2 homework.(Why do our schools teach quadratic equations and not how to house-hack and manage mortgages?) Weekends are spent- cooking dinner for the fam, mowing the lawn, and investing in friends, church family, and my amazing wife - leveling up on real estate investing, entrepreneurship, and personal development - at swim meets on Saturdays and playing guitar and worshipping the Risen Christ on Sundays
