About Brian Lu

I am an a cybersecurity professional with a breadth of experience across multiple organizations and roles. During my time at Iowa State, I’ve worked on several team projects and labs that simulate real-world threats, giving me the opportunity to develop skills in intrusion detection, vulnerability management, and development security. Through various job opportunities I’ve had the opportunity to gain hands on experience in both security and IT operations. In the past year as an Information Security Intern at the Iowa Department of Management, I’ve made several key contributions, such as helping to build and test an internal event tracking website, assisting in modernizing security infrastructure, and supporting the rollout of a new SIEM/SOAR platform. Before that, I spent nearly two years working part-time in IT Operations Support at the Iowa State University Foundation, where I provided daily technical support to over 200 users and helped manage IT assets through their full lifecycle. These experiences allowed me to be immersed in two different enterprise scale IT and security systems, learn how to work with all sorts of technical and non-technical partners, and provided additional opportunities to put classroom knowledge to real world use. With additional skills from ISU's Office of Admissions and volunteer club officer experience, I have a truly unique blend of skills that are sure to add a lot of value to any organization. I am open to any entry/junior level role in cybersecurity or broader IT and tech fields.
