Background

About Brian Luce

Brian Luce is an architectural project manager and designer based in New York City. Professionally, Brian has worked in NYC and Syracuse, NY. He has developed experience in new construction and renovation work of many project types. These types include educational institutions, cultural institutions, residential, development projects, fitness facilities, and commercial/retail. He has contributed to projects throughout all phases of the design and construction process, from schematic design to construction administration. He is interested in both the minutia of construction, and in the broader, conceptual framework of the design project. Brian has positioned his architectural work at the nexus of practice, research, and service. In Syracuse, he was an Engagement Fellow at UPSTATE: a Center for Design, Research, and Real Estate. He worked on multiple public interest design projects in the community, including a research study of the I-81 viaduct, a design-build studio coordinated with city governance and the university, and coordination of an NEA-funded competition and art exhibition. In 2014, he was awarded the inaugural PlayLab Fellowship through Australia-based non-profit Playground Ideas. As a fellow, he functioned as a designer and writer, developing materials to make inclusive play spaces more accessible to communities around the world. He earned his bachelor's of architecture from Syracuse University, where he received recognition for his thesis work on the role of architecture in martian habitation and humanity's path to the stars. As a student, he traveled around the world studying in Florence, London, and Ghana, Africa. While in Syracuse, he co-founded the Syracuse chapter of Freedom by Design, a student-run organization designing for community members with disabilities. In his final year as a student, Brian helped design and build Play Perch, a wheelchair-accessible outdoor classroom for a local school, which was featured by national architectural publications.
