About Brian McCarthy

Internationally experienced solid waste management practitioner and trainer. I have a broad range of resource and waste management sector experience gained over 14 years implementing projects throughout Europe, Middle East, Africa and Central and South Asia. My main focus has been working with beneficiaries to develop and implement appropriate customised, holistic, and integrated wastes management strategies, policies, technologies and infrastructure through knowledge transfer training and assistance. Whilst environmental protection is always core to the outcome, the main focus of my work is developing and enhancing sustainable social stability through improved municipal services and enabling environments. I have worked with and built strong relationships with public, private and third sector clients to develop strategies and implement technical, institutional, social, economic and political aspects of municipal service delivery. I have worked with national ministries on policy formation, helped design and manage landfill sites, driven and serviced waste collection vehicles and operated composting and recycling facilities. I'm adaptable to many environments and global challenges, with unique experience in conflict, post-conflict and rapid political change affected country and city development assistance.
