About Brian Merrill

I am a graphic designer with Transport for New South Wales. I create visual communications for various initiatives that help shape transportation initiatives in Sydney and across New South wales. My role includes internal and pubic facing communications. Work can range from information design, animation, presentations, photography and video production. In the past, I have been a graphic designer, art director and design project manager. Outside of TfNSW, I am photographer. On the personal side, I create fine art photos and strive to do gallery exhibitions as often as possible. You can see some of my work at brianmerrill.au, or on Instagram at @brian.e.merrill. Most of my professional work is product and advertising photography for a wide range of multi-national brands. Ever go to a store or a website to buy things? You've probably seen my work. I like product photography, because much like good graphic design, product photography is far more complex than it seems. The better it's done, the easier it looks, and I love the challenge of making it look easy. I pride myself in possessing what I believe to be a rare combination of creativity, technical proficiency and organizational skills. I can not only work on creative concepts, but also understand technology platforms, project management and a wide range of software and physical tools. This combination has helped me become quite successful across a range of creative disciplines. Not only can I hook up your stereo system, I can probably design and build the speakers. Actually, I have actually done that. Did I mention I am a carpenter as well, and have built most of the furniture in my own home? I have also been a published fitness and lifestyle author, and am a certified personal trainer in Australia, and was previously a Master Fitness Trainer and Drill Sergeant in the US Army. That has nothing to do with my current professional work, it’s just a fun fact that people don’t expect when they meet me. When I'm not working, you'll probably find me on a motorcycle or in my garage making sawdust.
