Background

About Brian Mirsch

I like to consider myself as someone with equal parts science and art; split between the logical, often rigid side of engineering and the emotional side of music and imagery. This is not to say that one side has to be strict or creative all the time, but I find that exploring both sides allows me to stay passionate in my works. I love a good challenge and I need to feel as though my contribution matters to an end goal (I believe this is at the core of anyone's career satisfaction.) Engineering: I've had the opportunity to cover all aspects of Mechanical Engineering in my career so far; from proposal work and early phase design/analysis to production-level documentation and repair/support functions. From my time in undergrad, I have taken an interest to the business side of things as well, always trying to keep economics and cost in perspective. I have been in small companies, participating in transitions to ISO compliance and working in interdisciplinary teams, and I have also been in large corporations that rely on a more isolated and concerted engineering approach. I've had to do my own drafting of technical data packages as well as having been allowed to focus on pure analysis. Over the years I have had great exposure to the different ways of interpreting the broad field of Mechanical Engineering. Arts: I've been playing drums since I was in the third grade. My parents deserve all the credit for this and for allowing me study independently under Drew White once they saw that I was excelling beyond the pace of the typical school classes. As I've gotten older, I've been lucky enough to play with some amazing musicians and make money doing so. I've discovered a passion for recording music as well and have a deep appreciation for the skills that go unnoticed to the average listener in order to create a masterpiece. I'd love to eventually get better at more instruments and have the freedom to write my own music at my own pace.
