About Brian Newvahner

I would like to highlight some important areas reflected in my career. I have more than 28 years of full-time law enforcement experience, in which I am now serving as a Lieutenant with the Ohio University Police Departments, Athens Campus. During my tenure here we have increased to almost the largest Law Enforcement entity in Southeast Ohio and I have been a contributing factor in that growth. My qualities including crisis management, conflict resolution, supervision, management, fleet operations, consulting and maintaining complicity with state and federal guidelines. I currently supervise 25 officers; 5 communications officers and 2 staff members. I am also and active adjunct instructor at Hocking College, teaching several different topics to include firearms in the criminal justice program to new recruit officers. As the Afternoon Shift Lieutenant, I am responsible for the shift operational needs, event operations and planning, oversee the State of Ohio mandated training and development of officers along with the completion of performance evaluations. I have strong interpersonal communication skills and an ability to approach my duties with a positive team-oriented outlook and problem-solving skills. During my 28 years in Law Enforcement, I have learned to develop a strong working relationships with the community I serve to develop trust and provide the best service and support.
