Background
About Brian Roland
I completed my Ph.D. in Social Work in 2010, after completing my master’s degree in social work and bachelor’s degree in psychology. I currently work at Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) where I am an Online Assistant Professor. Here, I teach online masters-level research, field and clinical courses. Also, at IWU I created two masters-level online program and practice evaluation courses. At IWU, I was also involved with helping the online MSW program with initial CSWE accreditation. Also, I currently work part-time at Capella where I teach online masters-level courses in research, statistics, field seminar, social work history and policy, program evaluation, and social work practice (clinical residency). I have also taught doctoral-level courses in action research, program evaluation, and doctoral research (research residency). In the past, I was an Assistant Professor at Nyack College Manhattan where I taught courses in research methods (online), field seminar, human behavior and the social environment, and statistics (online). At Nyack College, I was also responsible for completing the annual assessments for the School of Social Work, helping to develop a new MSW program that included curriculum development, and being involved with different academic committees. Also, at Nyack College I created a masters-level online research methods course and a masters-level online practice and program evaluation course. I have also worked as an Adjunct Professor at the University at Albany where I taught MSW- and BSW-level courses in social welfare policy, addictions (online), clinical evaluation (online), and research methods. I also worked at Marist College for more than two years where I taught courses in social welfare policy, psychology, and mental health (dual disorders) to inmates at the Green County Correctional Facility. Lastly, I taught social welfare policy courses at Hudson Valley Community College. These teaching experiences at the college-level have given me the opportunity to advise, teach, and mentor a diverse population of students over the past 8 years. I have more than 16 years of social work practice experience (15 years post-MSW) helping populations that struggle with mental illness, addictions, and other issues. I incorporate my clinical experiences into my curriculum for most courses. In 2014, I earned and now have my License Master of Social Work (LMSW) in New York, and in 2018 I earned my License General in Social Work (LGSW) in Minnesota.
