About Brian Sorenson

Brian is the co-founder and VP finance at Canary Biofuels. As a co-founder, he was involved in carrying out the acquisition and capital raise. As part of the management team within a startup company, Brian will leverage his accounting and finance background within various roles such as: accounting, marketing, operations and business development. Previously, Brian was an Investment Banking Associate at Eight Capital where he supported advisory and capital market mandate execution. Prior to, Brian was an Equity Research Associate assisting in the analysis of Oil & Gas E&P/ Service companies. Prior to his career in capital markets, Brian was a Senior Accountant in the audit group at BDO Calgary. He oversaw and prepared IFRS and complex ASPE audit engagements. Brian also has experience in the preparation of NTR and Review engagements as well as Corporate and Personal Tax returns. Brian attained his university degree at the University of Alberta with a major in Finance and minor in Accounting. In addition to the CA designation, Brian also attained the CFA charter. He has taken additional courses in VBA, SQL, and financial modelling advancing his excel skills. Outside of work, Brian enjoys outdoor activities such as squash, running, and golf.
