About Brian Swain

I'm a career-long investment professional driven by the challenge and purpose of building high-performing, institutional-grade portfolios that support long-term missions. Over the past 25+ years, I’ve led teams, built firms, and shaped strategies that span the full spectrum of asset classes—from private equity and hedge funds to credit and venture co-investments.As Deputy CIO at Howard University, I helped build the internal investment office from scratch. We've since delivered top-quartile returns across the endowment and retirement fund, outpacing many Ivy peers and making history for the institution.Earlier in my career, I co-founded a hedge fund that grew from $14 million to $1 billion AUM, and I’ve held leadership roles at Tiburon Capital, The Palladin Group, and others. Along the way, I’ve developed a deep conviction in disciplined underwriting, strong manager partnerships, and team development as the core of enduring investment success.Outside of my operating role, I serve on investment boards, including as Independent Chair of the Macquarie ETF Trust and former Trustee for Montgomery County's retirement plans.
