About Brian Watts

After honing my skills in other industries, I'm ready to come back home to precision machining and the world of manufacturing. I grew up around machining as my father was a machinist. When I was 15 and 16, I helped him run one of the CNC machines at his job over the summers. Now I'm looking for an entry-level job to start me on the path to becoming a second generation machinist. A sampling of my more relevant skills to the industry include: • Set up and operated lathe, drill press, and Bridgeport-style mill in classroom environment • Familiar with shop floor hand tools from files to tap & die sets • Familiar with safety procedures and standards when working with machine tools • Have used vises, clamps, jigs and fixtures to hold work in place • Reading and understanding sample blueprints in class exercises • Transferred blueprint to layout, then cut, drilled and machined to specifications • Performed semi-precision and precision measurements using scales, micrometers and dial calipers • Recently returned to motocross and taught myself how to completely rebuild a motorcycle from the ground up as well as fix and maintain it during a racing season • Have learned to use a number of common and specialized tools through motocross, woodworking, crafting and home renovation • Often became a key knowledge resource in previous jobs due to ability to seek out answers and desire to keep everyone up to speed to limit the company's bus factor • Through both tech support and coaching experience, able to quickly spot and fix problems then explain solutions in simple non-technical language to people in extreme situations • Excel in troubleshooting, whether starting with the problem and working backwards or working forward through a concept to limit problems at execution.
