About Brian Wilcox

I am a laboratory enthusiast. I look to understand and apply laboratory technology within a variety of settings. I have been in analytical laboratory environments educationally and professionally for over 10 years. I enjoy the method and discovery of new techniques and the process behind them. I started my laboratory career focusing on biotechnology with an emphasis on forensic science and paired this with a biology BSc (Honours) degree. My laboratory journey led me to analytical geochemistry where I was able to apply my previous education and skills to equipment I have never used before, such as an ICP-OES. I became proficient in sample analysis and method validation in this area. I then decided to pursue medical science in hopes to make a difference in sample analysis that has significant values in human health. To accomplish this, I further obtained a BHSc (Honours) degree from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (now Ontario Tech University), and with it, a license to practice as a Medical Laboratory Technologist. I now find myself at Peterborough Regional Health Centre as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in the Microbiology department, helping with critical COVID-19 testing during a crucial time in our history. I continue to look forward to the challenges and changes that come about in this profession.
