About Brian Winkel

We are building a community of learners and teachers of differential equations in which modeling scenarios and technology use are central to the learning process, both at the inception and throughout. We call it SIMIODE - Systemic Initiative for Modeling Investigations and Opportunities with Differential Equations and its ever evolving home is Participation is FREE with special groups of common interest, e.g, Teachers, Students, Government, Industry, etc. Just register and explore. In May 2011 I retired from formal teaching and mentoring in mathematical sciences at the United State Military Academy at West Point, having also taught at the United States Air Force Academy, at liberal arts settings (Albion College and Brown University), and at engineering schools (Michigan Technological University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology). During my academic life I founded and edited two scholarly journals,Cryptologia - devoted to all aspects of cryptology in 1977 and PRIMUS - Problems, Resources, and Issues in Mathematics Undergraduate Studies in 1991. Thus I have the experience and background to organize this SIMIODE building project and with your help we can make SIMIODE a reality and offer students and faculty a rich alternative for teaching differential equations using modeling and technology throughout. We are in need of contributors who can write up differential modeling scenarios which offer a modeling context for teaching differential equations.
