About Brianna Burge

I chose Family and Consumer Science-Family Services as my major, because I have always had a passion for working with families and children. I added a minor in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, because in our patriarchal society there isn’t enough of a focus on women. During my time in undergrad, I discovered a deep and very personal love for helping families in crisis. In my final year of undergrad I was afforded the amazing opportunity to work at H.O.P.E. of East Central Illinois, a domestic violence organization, as a shelter advocate. This hands-on experience allowed me to both support and empower women and families in need. As a first-generation college graduate, I can now proudly say that I am ecstatic to work with families and put to good use all of the invaluable teachings that my professors had to offer. My job takes patience and a strong heart. In the words of Gandhi, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”.
