About Brice van Liefferinge

I'm trained geographer, glaciologist and modeller. With a background in geography, where I developped my skills in modelling, climate and GIS in particular, at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB, Belgium), I became interested in glaciology during my master when I studied the dynamic evolution of the McCall glacier, Alaska. I pursued this interest in Earth sciences during my PhD during which I modelled the thermal regime of the Antarctic Ice Sheet. Under the Beyond Epica Oldest Ice project, I published the first Antarctic-wide map of 1.5 million-year-old ice. I also spend two months drilling shallow ice cores and collecting GPR and pRES data in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica. I was a teaching assistant for the six years of my PhD, teaching lab courses in geomorphology, glaciology, geology at Bachelor through Master level, and organised yearly fieldtrips. I was very active as a scientist within the ULB: I am a scientific staff representative for the ULB faculty, department and plenary assembly. I have also been the science faculty alumni association 's organising committee secretary for the past 5 years. modelling, both essential in any successful scientific work. I finished my PhD in Belgium in March 2018 working on ice sheet modelling and Antarctic climate history Since then I have been working as a glaciologist in Norway at the Norwegian Polar Institute dealing with models and radar data analysis. I collaborate with US and Japanese colleagues on the Oldest Ice Dome Fuji project. In 2018-2019, I spent 3 months at Dome Fuji (one of the most remote places in Antarctica). I was the team leader for Norway for ground penetrating radar data collection and on site data processing and analysis.
