About Bridget Eckhardt

I am proud to work with Teck Resources as a Water Resources Engineer for Red Dog Operations in Alaska. I am responsible for medium to long-range planning for water management at an operating mine and for developing and executing source control, pre-treatment, and water treatment projects to mitigate water management risks and reduce closure liability. I am also responsible for building climate change resiliency into our operational and closure strategies. I have a keen focus on optimized use of water and load balance modeling and decision quality frameworks to support decision-making. These tools allow for strategic prioritization of ML/ARD and water volume management projects despite the complexity and uncertainty inherent to sites like Red Dog. Previously, I worked as an environmental engineer with a focus in hydrogeology and arctic engineering. I was involved in arctic research and work for a variety of clients in Alaska. I supported utilities projects throughout rural villages in Alaska including potable water treatment and distribution, sewage treatment, and landfill design and installation projects. I have also led and supported mine water management and contaminated sites projects throughout the United States. My contaminated sites experience included remedial investigations and environmental risk assessments at FUDS and industrial sites. I also have experience with PFAS-related investigations, metals soil contamination, and fuel spill detection and remediation. My background also includes experience using environmental tracers including stable isotopes to support hydrologic and hydrogeologic investigations. I have an M.S. in Environmental Engineering with a focus in Environmental Contaminants. My master's thesis explores the transport of methane in open-talik lakes in discontinuous permafrost aquifers. My work highlights the complexity of groundwater flow dynamics in degrading discontinuous permafrost in Interior Alaska.
