About Bridget Hall

I am a doctoral student in Ethics and Society and a Theology and Practice Fellow at Vanderbilt University. I completed her bachelor’s degree in history and religion at Greensboro College. After completing my baccalaureate, I went on to earn a Master of Divinity from Emory University Candler School of Theology. During my tenure at Greensboro College I received awards of distinction respectively in history, religion, and education. I also received the Claude H. Thompson award for my work at the intersection of faith and justice while completing my studies at Candler. In 2017 I was hired to design and implement a community-based program for first-generation college students at Emmaus House, a non-profit direct-action organization with the Episcopal Dioceses of Atlanta. I also serve as an Ella Baker Trainer for the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School which provides me with the kinds of opportunities to develop and refine a praxis of liberation, care, and justice for children, families, and communities effected by structural oppression. I am interested in tackling policies and conditions that shape and inform the lives of children and families. As a social ethicist and child advocate, I explore how race, class/economics, and intrafamily and community violence disrupt and encumber the ability for children to flourish. My research integrates christian social ethics with an interdisciplinary framework that engages political philosophy, pragmatism, social theory, and public policy. My work is devoted to addressing the moral and social responsibility of ensuring all children, especially those from poor and working-class families of color, flourish. Central to this work is examining a praxis of liberation and justice for children with attention to their rights, dignity, humanity and the practical elements of care.
