About Bridget Islas

I am a first-generation, Latina student at the University of South Florida (USF) in my hometown of Tampa, Florida. Currently, I am working on my bachelor's degree in General Business and will graduate in Spring of 2020. After graduation, I hope to start my career in Human Resources. My passion is to help companies encourage a positive and healthy work-environment that increases both satisfaction and productivity in the workplace for an overall better employee experience and greater business results. I am also a brother of the Theta Phi chapter of Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity, whose focus is to advance professionalism, encourage leadership, and provide networking opportunities. In Fall of 2019, I served as Vice President of Scholarship and Awards, a role in which I encouraged all members to reach their full academic potential through brotherly support and accountability. In Spring of 2020, I served as Vice President of Community Service, where I planned and scheduled volunteer events with local non-profits for brothers of the chapter to participate in as a way to help communities in need around the Tampa Bay area.Since September of last year, I had the incredible opportunity of combining my love of musical theater and my passion for business by working as a Human Resource Intern at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Tampa, a local non-profit theater I regularly visit for Broadway shows and plays. For a few months prior to the COVID-19 situation, I was able to work as a Recruiting Intern for BlueGrace Logistics, a third-party logistics company based in Riverview, FL. During my short time there, I learned how to effectively promote open positions and the culture of a company, both skills necessary to be successful in recruiting. However, not every interested candidate made it through the entire hiring process or became a hired employee. Therefore, I also learned how to handle rejection, a rare skill in today's professional climate.
