About Bridget Purdy

Currently, I am enrolled in the Specialist's Leadership Program at Kennesaw State University. I graduated cum laude from University of West Florida in with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. After graduation, I continued working in the hospitality industrial as a restaurant manager. It was not until I moved to Atlanta did I receive a teaching job. I currently teach 4th grade general education at Russell Elementary School in Cobb County. I have had many opportunities to function in a variety of educational settings. Working in a Title I school has been a rigorous training ground and has given me hard earned experience in hands-on class management, district wide curriculum development, and EIP, IEP and RTI processes. Working with diverse groups of children has been rewarding, and I have created positive changes in many of my students' academic and personal lives. In today's age of "video" kids who lack opportunity for higher education and are becoming ever more sedentary, I hope to impart a real understanding of the role of learning in the ever changing world in which they live. We are living in an intensely stimulating period of history. Our students are being besieged with information that pulls their attention from every platform; computers, ipads, cell phones, and over one hundred television channels. My ultimate goal is to move my students to creativity, a process of having original ideas that have value.
